What if you were this man
« on: August 29, 2012, 10:38:23 am »
Once upon a time: McDonalds was selling beenie babies with a purchase of a happy meal. People were visiting all McDonalds in the area to get diffrent beenie babys and there was sooo much food being trashed, no one wanted the meal just the beenie. Late at night a father came in with his little daughter, their clothes looked dirty and she was in a little dress dirty also. Holding her hand and looking lost, as we were in the long lines waiting for the stupid beenie baby. Finally a few folks asked him what he was doing and he said reluctantly and scared. "Uh.. Some people told me that they are giving free food out around here??)
I was thinking holy S@#$ this whole time all of us been just throwing tons of burgers, fries and drinks away!! This guy just wants to feed his daughter a happy meal! Needless to say we all tried to give him alot but he only took 2 for him and 2 for his little daughter. It was like she never got that and that night she finally got one. The humility of this man choked me up and made me think what I take for granted. Could I have De-Prided my self to go ask a crowd that for food? What if I was him. I got kids too and they are my life. When I cannot provide for them I wanna die. When I left there I had a hard time throwing away my happy meals as the trashcan there and all other McDonalds cans were overflowing with happy meals.

:o OMG I didn't know people would throw McDonalds Food. When I buy happy meals is to EAT happy meals.

Why didn't you just buy the toy and save the food from going to the trash? OMG how did you feel, what were you thinking? :angry7: :BangHead: so so so many hungry people in the world and you are throwing food!

In case you didn't know, McDonalds sale their Happy Meal Toys ! At least where I live they do.

Also where I live at night there is a few homeless people who go and get the food that wasnt sold during that day. I used to wonder why they was there until I asked somone and after that I thought wow some Business people can really give back and not waste. I used to work at a Dominos Pizza and at end of night either we would take food home for our family or we would take it to a shelter.

That was during the Beanie Baby craze and McDonald's had several limited editions ones.  My grandmother did the same thing, buying several happy meals for the dolls, then throwing the food away.  At this time I don't think they sold the toys separately.

I have a lot of pride, and while I've never received a handout from someone who wasn't my parents or another close family member, I believe that I would do the same as this guy, and I'm sure you would to.  Being homeless or poor would give you a completely different perspective.

:'( That was many years ago. People are worse now. People don't know what privileges are they only believe in entitlements. People are spoiled. I am a low income person due to my disabilities, so I live in low income housing. I see on a regular basis brand new cars showing up here and they are not visitors. If everyone in here has an income cap to live here how can they be making payments on cars. There is even a BMW minivan, now you know the payment on that has to be around $300.00 monthly. After rent and bills are paid there is so little money for just the basics. I am driving a car that I bought used a few years ago and needs a lot of repair. It is hard enough to keep up regular maintenance. Anyway I am not here to talk about my problems but to address the wastefulness of the human race. My point was people think they are entitled to a certain lifestyle and they get what they want and it doesn't mate what they step over or on to get it.
Never give up!!!

Before I retired I worked for a social agency. I used to tell all the people I talked with that they should become involved with a faith community. It does not matter if it is Christian, Jewish, Islam, Hindu, or any other. Then when bad things happen you will not fall through the cracks like that man and his daughter. At the very least he could have gone to any church and get a meal.

I have to say that this is a sad story. I think anyone would do whatever they had to to feed their children. I know I would. This story makes me sad for the man and the little girl. These are the times I wish I were rich so I could help people in need like that.

That's a very nice thing for you to do.
I'm glad there still are people in the world that help other people out when they can't help themselves. =/

That is soo sad it's a shame that there are families like that, especially in my own family my own mother lives in her car, my dad could lose his house at any time, and my fiance's mom and dad are losing there house and may not have anywhere to go  :sad1:

When people are blessed, they take for granted they will never ever want for food.  But the idea of buying food to get a stupid toy that a child is only going to play with for a few hours and forget about it is ridiculous.  But throwing food away just for the toy is totally asinine.  It leaves you with the thought that the parents aren't too bright in the first place to throw away food.

I would give the happy meals to homeless people that hang out on the exits of the interstate, they are always asking for money or food...

how on earth could you not know there are hungry people out there ? i have a friend that is homeless most of the time, a young girl. she goes to bojangles sometimes and tells them she is homeless they will give her what they have sometimes even the few dollars they have in their pocket. even if you didnt know about the homeless and hungry ,you had to know about charities for cancer, ms, what ever. unless you have been under a rock all your life, all that money on beanie babies that now people cant give away so sad.

These days Happy Meals are worth more than Beanie Babies.  I remember when they were all the rage.  However, I know that's not the point of your message.  Life is hard and I hope we all do what we can to help each other...
