My ferret got fleas, any advice?
« on: March 28, 2009, 05:55:53 pm »
I just bathed him with dish soap, and it seemed to kill all the fleas, but I'm worried they will return. Any advice?

:dontknow: I would do an internet search if you haven't already. I think ferrets are cute but I don't know a thing about taking care of them. Would be good if you can put drops on them like dogs or cats.

haha now thats something you dont here every day:) I ve always wanted a ferret. But genrally that wont do the trick. whether its a dog cat or even a ferret. It might remove some of them but there is a good chance there are still some. Try a flea and tick shampoo, thats what i use for my dog, it gets rid and helps prevent. If not im sure there is some product specific for ferrets just to be on the safe side.

Try a local pet store (make sure they cater to exotic pets as well), they should have products specially designed for ferrets and for a reasonable price!  If all else fails, go see your vet!  I've had ferrets and never had fleas, but they do require different care than dogs and cats!

Cool you got a ferret. But I can't give you any advice because keeping ferrets as pets are illegal in my state. Try an internet search like the others said.

I used to have a ferret and she got fleas as well once.  Probably because I would take her to the local swimming hole in the summer where others would bring dogs.  I used some pet flea shampoo, then used a few of those flea/tick gas bombs and set them off in my house.  After that, no more fleas.

I would like to help you with that, but I don't even own 1 pet. Good luck with the fleas.

I always wanted a ferret, but my sister has one, and she just uses a flea collar (they're out there for ferrets). And I babysit them sometimes, but since I never really have problems then I don't know what else to tell you.
