try having him stretch and applying icy hot gel... excercise is also going to help in the long run even if at the time its painful  :)

Yep! Ibuprofen (like Advil or Motrin- NOT Tylenol) and a hot bath with epsom salts.  Stay in a well salted bath for 20 minutes, laying so your back can be soaking in the salty water.  Im getting ready to go do one, myself!

I suffer with a lot of back pain, i saw on Dr. Oz this. I haven't tried it, so I don't know if it works or what but I will tell you and you can try it and decide for your self if it works or not.

He said to get some castor oil not castrol oil, but castor oil. Rub it on where is hurts, cover it with seram wrap and then but a heating pad on. He said it will work very good. I hope this works. Good luck!! 8)

Depends on the type of injury.  If it's a typical strain, then he'll just have to suffer for about 7-10 days before it starts to go away.  If it's a compressed disc or something, then he needs to see a doctor before further damage occurs.

I get that. I am one of those people that do not go to the doctor either. They have many products on the market for back pain. But depending on what it is. If it is a pinched nerve or a muscle spasm, then have him try Advil. They always work for me.

In my experience, most back pain is due to overworked muscles (or injured) which require stretching, ice, rest to recover.  Then afterward some kind of maintenance exercise to strengthen the area to make is less prone to injury.

The second most common is due to a subluxated vertebra - part of the spine is out of alignment.  This can cause pinched nerves, muscle spasms, and if left untreated can cause damage to the disc - compressed disc or swollen disc.  To fix this, find a local chiropractor that you trust who can move it back in alignment.  Mine are mostly related to my spine out of alignment, and within an hour, my pain goes away once it's fixed.  If not addressed, and the discs become injured - then you are talking surgery.

If the muscle treatments don't work, check around for a local chiropractor.  Many in my area offer reduced prices for initial examinations.  Would be worth at least getting it checked out to rule in/out alignment issues as a cause for the pain.

This might sound a bit ridiculous, but it works for my mother. First off get something like Sunjing, or another cream that warms up and apply it to the area of his back that hurt. Yeah this will cause some more pain, but trust me, then have him take Tylenol and aspirin, or what ever pain pills he might have. Then have him lay on the floor with his legs on a chair, I'm not going to lay this will bring some discomfort, but try to have him relax. Then after about 30 minutes or when he feels relaxed have him move slightly. If no pain then every slowly get him off the floor. If this doesn't work, then see a chiropractor he might need an adjustment.
