Selling College textbooks online
« on: June 30, 2012, 05:38:13 pm »
I would just like to say that I am a full time student and I am frustrated with having to pay so much for textbooks and then getting nothing in return!  Does anyone know of a good website to sell textbooks for decent money??  I tried amazon but haven't gotten any requests...I'm assuming because its summer.  Looks to me like Amazon is the best one for the money because you quote it.  Just wondering if anyone has a suggestion.

Thanks!   ;)

When I was in college, i used to sell the books back to bookstores, but I didn't get as much as I would like.
Good luck on selling books.

I too never got back much for my text books... Tho the reverse I did much better with; I'd first go to class to determine what books to buy (some classes esp. in literature they'd have the bookstore reserve a bunch of books for the class that we never actually used) then I'd go to a used book store (on-line I liked half price books) and get the text books for a fraction of what the school's bookstore was charging. You may also consider posting flyers on the school bulletin boards. This really works well for staple classes that everyone needs to take... Good luck!

I used to work at goodwill and happen to know that on their goodwill shopping site they sell college books. I used to scan them and we would ship them off so they could auction them off. You might try it to save some bucks and help out a charity.

I have one of my old ones for sale on Amazon.

Usually, the best place to sell them is the college you attend.  After you're done with them, post on the bulletin boards the book for sale and the class it will be used for.  I did better doing that, and I always bought mine used, unless it was a workbook which require writing in it.

Amazon is pretty much the best site to sell books. When my husband passed 3years ago, he left me with wall to wall books in every corner of the house. Ya, the man loved books of a thousands of different subjects! In fact the cats are sleeping on a pile of books right now. My big sis who's a banker suggested Amazon & she opened an account. In less than 3 days, she sold a Japanese lang. book for $20,recently she sold economics/finance book for 3o bucks!Of course she gets a % b/c she's the seller & I'm the supplier. She plans to teach me how to do selling later. Anyway, try buy books in your search.

I always buy my textbooks (used) online or at a book store across the street from campus. Ask the professor if you can buy an older edition of the book for class (you won't believe how cheap they get once the newer versions come out, and the text usually only has minute changes to it). The book store on my campus is a rip off; you won't get half of what you paid for when it comes to selling books back there. So I usually sell them on Amazon and Craigslist. You can also try to go directly to the classes on the first day and sell them to the students (my friend had success doing that). The best time to start selling is a week before the next semester starts (when prices hike). That's when everyone is scrambling to look for the best deals ;D
