first day working out

today is day one of my workout hopefully ill last more than a couple of day because usually i dont make it a month and my legs hurt so bad from not working out its not funny and good pointers to hep me stick with it

thats great i know how hard it is to get started but it gets easier especially when you see you self getting into shape good luck and at it

I don't know if you've looked into it or not, but you should consider joining an exercise class! They've got tons of different workouts geared toward any type of person. It's a lot easier to get a good workout in a group setting with an instructor and some music, where you're not just by yourself thinking about working out and how rough it is!

     I have been there too! Here is what really works: Walk at least ten blocks per day wearing confortable shoes during good weather days. Turn on your TV or laptop musical channels and warm up your body to some Zumba or other exercise program. I hope these hints work for you!

Start with something you can enjoy and sustain.  Don't try to do too much at one time and use the first month as an ease in period with very light effort.  If you are doing weight training, understand that it will take a little while before the neuromuscular system can adapt to where you can effectively focus on muscle growth so you should not concern yourself with the amount of resistance, but instead should focus on the correct motions and range of movement.  To keep yourself focused set small goals over periods of time and ignore any bad days (and also exceptional days) you might have and develop some system to measure your progress (for myself I use positive failure reps for a known weight as a baseline and I use that to judge progress and to know when to increase the weights I train with and also to determine how many reps to target).  For aerobic or plyometric training it becomes more difficult to judge for me so I don't have any recommendations there.

One day at a time.
Do 5 minutes, then keep increasing the amount of time you work out.

  If it is at all possible, get a buddy to work out with you.  For some reason we can all let ourselves down, but if someone else is waiting for you you are 10 times more likely to go.      Also, if you are starting at home, do little things.  Take a 10 minutes walk after you eat, doesn't seem like much but that equals a minimum of 30 minutes a day. (I eat 6 or 7 small meals a day so it is more like an hour for me!)  When you are watching TV get up and march or walk or dance JUST MOVE while the commercials are on.    Don't just weight yourself, also take your measurements....lots of time when you are not losing actual weight you are toning up muscles and getting a smaller waist, thighs etc.  GOOD LUCK and hang in there.  I have gotten serious about my health and have lost almost 30 pounds since the first of March.    You didn't get out of shape overnight, so don't expect to get back into shape overnight either!
