Government needs help any ideas on how they can make money and/or save money?

Cut every agency's money by 5% or go back to the 2008 levels.  Eliminate the fraud in Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, Food Stamps and Social Security Disability.  Every time a new agency/department is created 10 should be eliminated.  Allow oil drilling which would create many jobs and get us off of foreign oil.  Term limits for the Senate and House should be instituted and their salaries need to be cut.  Congressional pensions need to be eliminated.

They could cut back on welfare programs, support for other countries, war efforts, pay less to politicians and presidents.  They could charge higher 'sin' taxes for alcohol, cigarettes and entertainment.  They could stop paying anything for illegal immigrants and their off spring.  They could close the postal service.  They could stop waging unnecessary wars. Bailing out failing companies is absurd.  Re-employ darwinism and let the strong survive. Stop spending money on useless things!

Just an idea....but what if every government worker's salary was cut by $100.00?  There has to be thousands of government workers from the post office to the President.

$100 wouldn't phase them.  I imagine they wouldn't miss $1000 either, but just the scope of dollars that could be saved if every government worker "gave up" a little could be Huge.

Perhaps they could cut down on the amount every retired government worker receives too....

in case you don't already know!!!! our postal system is not funded by the government.(look it up) it is totally funded by the sales of stamps, bulk mail and anything else they can sell to the public or the business sector. that's why the postage keeps going up

For starters they could stop giving out these handouts they call "tax refunds". I mean how can you get a refund if you never paid taxes in the first place? Seriously just throw more money away and overly tax the few people out there who do work and pay taxes

I don't feel the the Senate and Congress should receive such ridiculous penisons (even when they don't serve entire terms or only 2 years) for the rest of their lives.  The should have to pay into and get out of the same Social Security System that most everyone else does.  They should not have the Health Care plan they receive (for life), they should have the same type of insurance as everyone else, and pay additional for each family member on it like everyone else.  We could  have a moratorium on monies given to other countries until our own budget is back in line.  (except for disasters).  CUT out pork belly projects, we need a line by line veto for the president on the budget.  FREEZE the budget, you cannot add anything until it is in balance.  These apply to federal, state, county and city governments.  Let Canada send us their crude oil, instead of sending it overseas and having to pay 2 times as much to get it back.  DO not give any government subsidies to companies that outsource their jobs, they can outsource they will just not get a bonus from us for doing it.  When the budgets are not ready on time, the public officials in charge of them do not get paid, and do not get reimbursed when they finally get their jobs done.  Contrary to what many think, we cannot just cut out welfare, some people really need it and it will be children who suffer the most.  But we could make it more difficult to qualify for and more difficult to sell or give away your welfare funds.  I could go on and on, we have to get people (particularly elected officials) to realize that the budget for the government has to be run just like our personal budgets...no money in no money out..short on money spend less...you cannot just keep raising the limits and the taxes.

I don't like legalizing drugs but I would vote for legalizing marijuana. Then the government could tax it  the way the do tobacco and save money on the law enforcement used to arrest and convict these users.

well the government is not going to stop helping the illegal immigrants because they are the ones lining their pockets with money I think if the people rally and stop supporting their campaigns they might get the damn idea that THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO BE WORKING FOR US immigrations is a major problem that is effecting our economy and no one seems to care everyone complains about it so when are the people going to take a stand probally never because it takes less work to sit and complain then to get up and do something I don't even register to vote anymore there is no sense my opinion does not mean anything will change so i stopped voting the gold ole USA IS GOING DOWN and the people everyone elects into congress is helping.

Damn it, me in total agreement with falcon9 means I have to poke myself in the eye to 'normalize' things.  Now that may not make sense, but it just didn't feel right to post "I agree" and leave it at that.

It was inevitably bound to happen however, if you're already 'half-blinded by faith', poking yourself in the other eye would be a further detriment.
If it's any consolation though, I've occasionally partially agreed, (on a tentative basis), with some things, (provisionally), that you've mentioned.

Stop all pork barrel spending. limit terms, put into ss just like us working people, cut out all loopholes. no retirement like they have, they should have to pay into thier retirement like the regular working person. Also pay for thier own insurance.
