I have yard sales and sell at flea markets and people don't want you pay you anything.  One lady last week actually paid me a dollar for three new shirts.  We just wanted to get rid of stuff so I let it pass because maybe we can make it up on other stuff.  There was one lady who I would see at flea markets and everyone would hate to see her coming because she would try to get away with paying so little for stuff.  It got to the point when she got to my table if she picked up something I'd automatically raise the price.

I saw one man break some nice plates he had because he was so frustrated because people were wanting to pay like a $1 for a whole set of like 10 plates.  He said he'd rather break it than to sell it to such cheap people.  That was a little extreme but I certainly understand where he is coming from.

Probably with the bad economy, everybody's looking for a bargain. I try to be fair when I offer less for an item, I want to get a good deal, but I don't want to cheat the person selling. I think some people get a kick out of ripping other people off. Of course, there are some yard sale sellers that want to make full price on used items, or close to it, and that aggravates me. If we wanted to pay that much, we'd just go to the store and buy it new!

a lot of it is the economy, yes.  we always try to have our yard sales at the first weekend of the month.  that way the social security, unemployment checks and so on go out.  i've found people dont  argue over the prices quite so much when they've just gotten their checks

You negotiate with people to sell them those who quote other people?  That's just ethically despicable.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.
