Have you ever traveled by amtrack?

Never traveled on an amtrack before. I think I might have rode a regular train once, but I honestly don't remember if I actually did or not.

WHen i was a kid, but i dont really remember it. I have ridden small train rides, like at events as well.

My husband and I used to love Amtrak trips.  The seats were roomy with lots of legroom to stretch out in.  You can't be in any hurry with the train though.  If something gets in it's way it has to stop, it can't just drive around something on the tracks.  Sometimes that wait can be hours.  The food wasn't too great so we just took a tote bag with snacks and stuff that didn't need refrigeration.  We took books and handheld games and stuff to do when we got tired of looking at the scenery or it was dark outside.  It was usually pretty well air conditioned so a sweater or jacket with a collar keeps you a little warmer.  It isn't always easy to get up and walk around if you are going thru the mountains and around corners, you get thrown around alot, but it's manageable.  I'm thinking about going to San Antonio to see a friend in October and I'd love to take the train, but, there are layovers that I wouldn't want by myself in case the train is late and doesn't make the connection.  Hope this helps.

My mom as taken Amtrack to see me. She had no compaints about it other than how long it takes. If you have the time, then it's a good alternative to flying/driving. Just factor in how long it takes to get from point A to point B and you should be fine.

I have traveled a lot by Amtrak and if I had my choice of travel modes it would be my first if I was not in a hurry to get from point A to point B.   I must also point out that there are two modes of travel on a long distance Amtrak trip with the first being a coach seat which is a better seat than just about any coach airline seat and in some ways comparable to a first class airline seat.  The second mode is going by sleeper which usually requires reservations well in advance of your trip since there is a very limited amount of first class sleeper seats available on every train.  The first class section is usually broken down into three different sections with ecconomy being the cheepest for two beds, a delux which usually includes a private bathroom, and the family room which is larger enough for a family of 5 or 6.  The first class ticket includes the meals.  All in all it is a great way to see parts of the country that you usually don't see and some you probably don't want to see.

I take the lightrail(train into/out of the city everyday.  It is quiet in the morning but somewhat packed at night.  I catch the first stop coming and going so I am always guaranteed a seat.  It is an adventure because you are exposed to people from all walks of life(pardon the cliche).  I love to people watch and, with a schedule as hectic as mine, am able to sit, back take it easy, read, work on my computer...it is a 82 minute vacation everyday!  My company pays for my pass so I am saving a ton of cash and leaving less of a carbon footprint on the world!  Winning!

Yes, i do it quite frequently to visit my brother.  I prefer the train to the bus because it avoids traffic, allows you to roam around a bit and stretch and overall you get a little more personal space to do whatever you want.  You can sleep or be productive if you choose.

I traveled with Amtrack before it is not to bad. You have enough leg room. I traveled from North Carolina  to Florida. My ways to make the time go by fast is watch a lot of tv shows on my computer until I get sleepy.
