Computers for playing Need For Speed Hot Pursuit
« on: February 01, 2012, 03:38:02 pm »
I bought my son NFS hot pursuit for Christmas. I thought my GPU had shader 3.0, but it only has 2.0. I found out that the expansion slot didn't support pcie x16. I need a computer, but I'm not rich. Any suggestions for an inexpensive computer? Suggestions for mother board, location, etc would be great. I do have a GPU that meets the specs, I just need a computer to install it or I can use a computer w/ a GPU already installed that works with NFSHP.

You can find me on Youtube!

you could always check local pc repair shops, maybe you could get a second hand one cheap to fix it up for your son?

How much is within your budget as there are a few ways you can go.  There are still some AGP or PCI cards available with shader 3.0, but depending upon the resolution one is playing with these might not be realistic options to thoroughly enjoy the game.

If you are comfortable building your own computer there are options available along varying paths depending upon what usable parts you currently have.  For gaming purpose the most important item is the video card (to a point as long as the cpu doesn't become a bottleneck).  You might be able to get by with a new motherboard and reuse your cpu and memory.  You would need a graphics card as well and very likely a new power supply (depending upon what you currently have).  This could be managed well under 100 dollars but I would need to know your current system as well as your monitor (to determine an appropriate graphics card).
There are only 10 types of people in the world:  those who understand binary, and those who don't.
