How it's made
« on: January 28, 2012, 03:46:45 am »
Do you wonder how things or made?
Well I do and one of the things I wonder about most is the making of batteries.
Like how is it that a battery can power our devices while in the middle of no where?

I was watching MYHBUSTERS the other night and they made a battery just like the Egyptians did 3500 years ago. Pretty cool. :)

I remember making one in 7th grade science.  I think you can even make one out of a lemon.  Well, it won't power much, but it works for a science experiment.

I was always curious to learn about how things worked - ever since I was a kid...and still fascinated today.  I guess that's why I decided to major in Physics in college (as that's pretty much an entire science devoted to researching and explaining how things work   ;D  )

Don't ever lose that curiosity - you'll discover some pretty neat things when you look for such things.

One series you may be interested in getting a hold of is a program called "Connections" - I believe there are 3 seasons for this show (most should be available on DVD by now).  Each episode links 2 different items/things based on inventions/discoveries through history.  One example is linking sugar to the development of atomic weapons, or how tea in Dutch India lead to radio astronomy.

The series is fascinating journey through history and various disciplines of science.

Though this is kind of different, I always wondered how certain kind of food extract is made. Like vanilla extract, or some other kind of flavoring.

I too often wonder how things are made. This intrest often caused me a lot of problems as a child, due to the fact, that I would often disassemble things,to find out how they worked.
