I'm not a lawyer, but I would think she needs to come up with evidence of unfit parent. and she must get legal councel. there are several free intial services for legal help. google them. hope that helps

First she needs to seek help from a domestic violence counselor to get some help for the abuse she has suffered. I know in my state the community mental health has domestic violence help center numbers and from their, their are many resources that she can get I do believe they can even supply a person with a free lawyer.

I agree... try the domestic violence resources and inquire about legal services
proof of abuse, medical documentation, witnesses will likely help her case that he would be not the best choice for custody
does she know he is fighting for full custody?
Best of luck during this stressful time

Most states have assistance programs for legal help it is called legal aid.  Check into it in your area.
