Did you go to camp when you were a kid?

I first started out at a campfire camp in my area.  That was for two years.  Then we discovered there was a big camp about 15 miles from our summer cabin.  I went for two or three weeks every summer.  I loved the swimming, boating, and especially the horseback riding.  We would even go on campouts with the horses. 

Our cabin was on a lake that had a boy's camp.  The lake was a good sized one and the boys camp was part way around the lake.  As we got older, the boys started coming to our dock in their canoes or stopping by on their horses.  Our dock was the farthest they were allowed to go.  Ironically, later in life, I met someone who used to go to that camp.  He was older than me, so we would not have connected in the summer.

I, too, went away to camp. I grew up in Southern Florida so took the train to Northern Florida every summer for 2 weeks of swimming, boating, singing, and living in a cabin with other campers. It was a great experience and one of the highlights of every summer. One thing I remember well is being in charge of my own spending in the camp store. It was a great experience and allowed me to do things I might not have done at such an early age. Good topic. Thanks for the memories!

Growing up my dad had the wisdom to enroll me in the Boy Scouts and for about 5 years until he died I could count on going to the summer camps in New Mexico.

I went to a girl scout camp called Meadow Mountain Ranch in Colorado. Wonderful days. The last one I remember going to was called "outpost" and we lashed our tables, chairs, and lived rougher than the other campers. They were in "tabins" (cabin/tent hybrid) and ate in the cafeteria. We slept in regular tents and made our food over the camp fire. Good times.

I never went to camp and never wanted to. I liked being able to just be lazy at home for a while.

Yup....I was a Camp Fire Girl.  I went for a week every summer.  I loved it.

never went to camp but went with girl scouts to a show in new mexico.  lovet it.

I never got to camp when i was a kid . I always wanted to though. Hey i might still do it one day.

Nope. I didn’t get to go because my father was too over-protective of me. I think it was a huge mistake to not allow me to become adventurous at an early age in order to develop my inner independence to venture the outdoors with my teacher & classmates.

i also wemnt to camp and it was fun but things are way different now in these days then they were back then.. there are a lot of things we had before that are not here now.. like a skating rink and etc.. we need more things for the kids in our society

i went to 4H camp the summer before 6th grade.
it was fun, except for getting up at 7am every day
and immediately going and DOING things... lol.
i was a bit too lazy for all that  i ended up meeting
some people that i later reconnected with in jr. high
from different schools. that was kinda neat.
