Buy silver and gold in small amounts over a period of time. Buy land. Buy weapons. Buy Buy pretty much anything that has real intrinsic value that last for a very long time.

Wow, I would buy the Motorola Droid Razr I've been saving up for and probably invest 10,000$ into government bonds, because I'm pretty broke, since I just got an expensive Internet cable plan at home, a new $10,000 air conditioner + humidifier, and a new stainless steel fridge. Since the smartphone (plus the two year plan) cost $2,000, I would still have $3,000 that I would split with my family (1,000 for mom, 1,000 for dad, and 1,000 for me)

I would stop the kitchen sink from leaking and fix a couple of the other things in my kitchen.(about 1/3), save one third and donate one third to worthy charitable causes.
