I always come up with a list of tasks/goals I'd like to accomplish.  I know I'll rarely finish half (if that) of the list - but the attempt gets me to finish more than if I didn't have the list.  I also recognize some of the items may not be accomplished due to changes that occur in the year that take priority.

Usually I have various fitness goals (right now is proficiency in my figure skating), financial goals, home improvement goals, reading goals, and other miscellaneous things.  When I get the list completed, I post a copy in various locations I frequent in the house so I can always be looking at the list throughout the year - keep the goals fresh in my mind.

I'll probably be reviewing my list from last year and revising it for next year sometime next week.
