20 packet adhesive stamps

I bought a 20 packet stamp book for about $8+ & when I was using it today, I noticed that on a large part of the stamp is the bar code. Isn't a big waste to have this on the packet when you can't even use it? Does anybody know what you do with this bar code adhesive piece?You wonder why government taxes everything when it's really the extra packaging that we are paying for.We should start cutting down since we have this do nothing congress & senate called the super committee who failed to do anything to find a solution for US Debt!!!!
