Gout
« on: November 10, 2011, 03:31:29 am »
So I found out that I have gout in my left big toe.I went to the doctor for it and they put on a medication that costs around $30.00 after my insurance payed their share. I am posting this to inform other people who suffer from gout a easy cheap way to take care of a flare up. Its pretty simple and you can find it at any store pure cherry juice or fresh cherries will help with the pain and swelling. Gout is a build up in uric acid that usually settles in the big toe and boy does it hurt.

I have had gout on occasion but didn't know about the cherries.  I try to drink a lot of water especially when my toe starts hurting and that seems to help quite a bit.

It would have cost you about 240.00 without the insurance. Cherry juice is good in treating the episode but do nothing for prevention. I find the medicine helps me and my insurance covers all of it.

I was lying in bed the other night, looking up at the stars, and thinking, "Where in the heck is my roof?"

Last April my ankle hurt. I went to my dr and they thought it was a sprain but it did not get any better.  So I went to a foot doctor and he thought it was gout.  And he put a shot in it and it did not get any better.  I went back to him and he exray it and it was fractured and I had to wear a boot for 6 weeks.  It was so painful.  I was out of work for 6 weeks.  I hope everyone has a nice day.  May God bless each of you.

can't gout occur in any joint? not just your toe or foot (although that may be a common site)

There are foods high in uric acid that you can also try to avoid large consumption of and see if that helps

Yes, gout can occur in any joint. It is known as 'podagra' when it involves the big toe and men (for reasons that aren't 100% known) usually get it in the big toe much more than we females do. It is uric acid that crystalizes in the bloodstream and spreads into tissues, tendons, and joints. A diet change is a must! There are several medications that help and, while I have never had it, I have seen 200lb grown men cry like babies when they come in with a bad flare. Many people with a history of gout are also prone to kidney stones, kidney disease, and it affects many organs - even though you may not even be aware of it.
