After trying a whole bunch myself, I ended up with Murad products (can purchase them online).  I've been very happy with the results.

As an extra tip - if you do decide to try it, be sure to sign up for an "Ebates.com" account - Murad purchases pay 11% cash back (I think it was 14% during the holidays).

Try fish oil pills.  They seem to help clear up my skin if I take them regularly.  I don't know why; I just read it somewhere, and it works!

How frustrating for you! I am no expert but I have had some exposure to behind the scenes information with promotional situations for products etc.  A couple things I have heard that may be of interest.
First, I have heard over and over from professionals on the topic that ProActiv isn't good because yes it improves acne for some but how it works makes a person's acne worse when they stop Proactiv.  So it creates a situation where a person  clears up and then stop but has to come back to the product because breakouts come back even worse. (Handy money loop of customers for the product.)
The Second thing I have heard again by professionals is that someone dealing with acne can get to a point where they overtreat and cause more acne problems.  The suggestion to check this would be to use a gentle face wash and an appropriate face moisturizer.  I have even heard that because someone's face is to dry and needs a moisturizer can cause the break out.  Hormones can d be frustrating and I am having my teenage round again in my late 40's (ouch).  You could try even thinking anti-bacterial type products.  It seems to help mine.  I may not stop the intial break out but I am learning to nip it in the bud so many times I am the only person that noticed.  I definitely have to moisturize or it all escalates and looks worse everywhere!

Wish you the best!
You're absolutely right about ProacTiv. I used it for three months and then got off it. My skin was... Let's just say you could see my pores. I've found that the best way to keep away the zits is by a combination diet and skin routine. I use plain soap and water because my particular form of acne is caused by excess grease on my skin. I also cut cheese out of my diet for three years.

Murad is kind of expensive. I just looked at their website! I can't spend a fortune on skin care products!

I have had terrible acne for about 20 years. I have tried just about everything out there, including medications. Lately I have been using the Skin ID system from Neutrogena. It seems to work pretty well, but I still get some decent breakouts, although not as bad as before. Now I get breakouts bad on my back, and that is even worse. Not sure what causes it, but sure is gross and frustrating.

Hi Heather721, I hope you are having success.  Look forward to an update by you.

I just heard on a doctors show something that might be helpful and I had never heard before.  Low zinc can be a culprit of acne.  One suggestion was eating more Kidney Beans which are a great source of zinc!  It amazes me that I had never heard that before.

I know you have dealt with the problem for a while, so I thought I would post this info.  When the body is missing something it needs there are always reactions.  And when we tap into a source that provides what is missing to our body it feels like a miracle.  Do not know if this applies to you, but I am going to add more kidney beans to my diet to see if it could be what I am missing.  I am not enjoying this second round in life of acne issues at all!  LOL  LOL  Not that severe but annoying.  ::)

You will probably continue to have acne fluctuations because having a baby does change the bodys' hormonal makeup.  If you are still having problems and the OTC are not working, then its time for a Dermatologist.

Ive been using a cleanser/toner from joppa minerals and am very happy. I ordered a few other products to try from them. I think I was harming my skin with so many acne products. I will eat more kidney beans and see if it helps. I do eat black beans and garbanzo beans a lot so it's no problem to add kidney beans. Thanks for the advice. My skin is looking a lot better these days.

all i can say is dont take accutane. i have personally taken it and i had minor side effects but mostly it can really deform your baby so any women on it will have to take  pregnancy test to make sure she is not pregnant coz if u are, they wont give it to u.
