I guess it all depends; a firm one is ok, but I can sleep better on a soft mattress but I don't like it too soft though.

I prefer a firm mattress.  I have a soft one now and I wake up with a back ache every morning.  As soon as I can find a job,
I am buying a new mattress.

I don't know but this one is not like the one we had, I liked it better, he went and dug this one out at a dumpster, I am not kidding. the bed furniture was very nice and is. almost brand new, but I don't know why we had to have someone elses matress, the other one we had, I liked.

Definitely firm. If I had the option between a soft bed or a rug floor I might actually choose the floor.

I prefer a soft mattress but I am currently sleeping on one that's pretty firm.  I don't mind it as I am able to get a pretty good nights sleep but I think it's bothering my lower back a little.  Does anyone think that it's from my firm mattress?

I'm a medium mattress person. firm enough for back support, but soft enough for comfort.

I like it a little inbetween. not too hard and not too soft.

waterbed for me. i've had a waterbed for over 20 years. regular mattresses kill my back and they're hot! i know it seems since waterbeds are heated that they'd be hotter, but my theory is regular mattresses hold onto your body heat more than a rubber bladder full of water can.
