garbage picking
« on: June 06, 2011, 01:32:45 pm »
lol lol i found a exercise bike, a baby bouncer(in GREAT condition, but dirty) and a big shelf in someone garbage. i cleaned up the baby bouncer and sold it for 10$ in my last garage sale. i was surprised coz i just wanted like 6 or 7 for it but the lady i babysit for put a 10$ sticker on it and it sold. i was happy and i have been wanting a exerise bike for a long time but could afford to buy one so i was excited to see one in someones garbage also in great condition. i have been using the exericise bike and i like it. i'm glad i can get stuff for free that i can use or sell for a profit.

Awesome finds! Anytime we want to get rid of something without bothering to sell it we put it out in front of the house and it's usually gone within 20 minutes. :) Most likely they just didn't want to be bothered messing with it and set it out thinking that either someone else would snag it or that the garbage man could deal with it! We only had a couch that sat out for awhile and then as soon as my Dad put a sign on it that said free it was gone. I will admit to taking something that was sitting out in front of someone's house if it is in good condition. Obviously they didn't want it or it wouldn't have been on the curb on garbage day. I do however draw the line and actually jumping into a dumpster or opening the garbage can to get something. LOL

haha yeah. i said i would jump in the dumpster but now that i think about it.. it's too gross. but i guess i would if there was something in there that i really wanted or needed. or something expensive like jewelry or like a big little tikes playground. that stuff like like 300$ new in the store.

LOL I might if it was something that I KNEW that I could take someplace and resell for $1000..... but I would be using a ton of shampoo and body wash in the shower when I got done! As a kid it was "man my soccer ball landed in the dumpster whose turn is it to get it" Nowdays it would be "if we can get it out with a stick then we can go wash it otherwise it's a goner" :)

so i tried to fix or rig the exercise bike but i couldnt get a bolt off so i decided to recycle it but with the metal it was..i only got 87 cents for it but like i said i got it in the garbage so i profitted from it in a way. i recycled my ab lounge too. i got 3 dollars and some odd cents for it but its not sitting around the apt collecting dust anymore and its not in my way. i got that for free too so i banked on that too.  so if u cant sell your ab lounge in your garage sale then take it to ur nearest recycling center. a little bit of money is better then no money.

I prefer to refer to it as 'scavaging'. I live near a large university and when the students move out for the summer, it is a treasure trove of items! I have found so many dressers, totes and various furniture that my family call me the 'Furniture King' - LOL. Usually the students buy so much during the year and do not have room in their vehicle to take it all home.

Some people call it: Dumpster diving or treasure hunting! I have found jewelry and new clothing with tags still on. Unexpired adult formula. Keep trying...there are some good places out there!

I don't dig in garbage dumpsters, but if people have stuff by the curb I take a look!

I always say I have enough stuff, I don't need any more.

I would think if you live near a college or university and pick up all sorts of furniture in the spring, you could sell it back in the fall  when new students enter.

Around here, if you go around campus when school is getting out in the spring. You can find some great finds like you did. They do not want to haul the stufff home so they just put it out on the street for anyone to take.

I am use the garbage men have a great time finding things. My boyfriend once found a 10 gallon fish tank 1/2 full with loose change that the student didnt want and just tossed it out.
