Why is it crazy?  If you can afford it and you need the help do what you want.  My brother's family used to have a cleaning lady.  I wouldn't call her a maid because she only came a few times a month.  I think they got rid of her because she wasn't doing that great of a job.  Both my brother and his wife work and maybe they didn't have time to clean the house all the time with their schedules.  My brother works different shifts and my SIL travels a lot for her job so a lot of times they aren't home to clean.

Well, if you need the extra help around the house and have the money then, go for it. I don't see anything wrong about it as long as you can afford it. I personally would clean my own place and save the money for other much needed stuff or bills.
