HOSPICE CARE

Have you or a loved one had to use hospice care in home? My husband has terminal cancer and will soon need hospice care. What do you think of it?

If a loved one needs around the clock care or if work/income can't be interrupted I believe that hospice care is the answer.  Hiring a nurse so that the loved one can live their last days in the comfort of their home sounds like a better option but terminal cance may need more attention than can be found at home. In either case I would be at my loved one's side as much as I could whether it was in a hospice or not.

I have had experience with both in home and institutionalized hospice care and have nothing but good things to say. People who do this kind of work are a cut above from what I have seen.

Sorry to hear that your husband has terminal cancer.  From my experience hospice has provided excellent care.  A special kind of person volunteers to serve as a representative for hospice.  They provide comfort and help relieve the strain on the family.  Wishing you and you husband the best.  My God bless you.

First of all I am so sorry for you know what your going through.  Yes I have used a Hospice in home care for my mother-n-law.  I was a lot of help.  Now you will still have a lot of work for you to still do your self but they do have available to you nurses, doctor, nursing assistance, and sitters.  They will supply certain things for his care that they will bring.  One thing I can tell you that we found worked better than anything for bed sores to keep from happening I used PPH.  Put on her everyday once she was bed ridden.  Always has pressure points.  The bossa that they use doesn't stop bed sores but pph does.

It was so much easier to keep her here in the house b/c she was much more comfortable than in a hospital plus you can controll what is going on much better.  Making sure things are being done correctly.  Like no mistreatment happening.  I will keep you in our prayers and try the PPH for any bedsores and to keep them away.  If he gets on make sure to put a big glob on it and rub over it to coat it then add just a little more and cover it with a gauze pad before replacing diaper or undergarments so it stays on the area longer.  It takes the pain out and the swelling at the same time and allows it to heal.  I bought the walmart brand it was cheaper and worked just as good as the real brand of PPH.

Hospice is a wonderful and compassionatre service that is full of dignity and respect and I can not say enough about them and the help they offer to the terminally ill and their families.  They are the rock in the storm.

My mother received hospice care when she was ill.  I wasn't in town at the time, but my father said they took very good care of her during her last days.  They also referred my father to a grief counselor after her passing.  They are very thorough.

I had an aunt and uncle who both used in-home hospice care.  I think it's much easier on the patient and family, hospitals are not very private or comfortable.  The nurses were all very nice.

It's been over 6 months since I looked at this post. My husband died on Valentine's Day. Grief on a cellular level is the only way I can describe it. You can't know this if you've never been there. I have a family member in my home entering the last stages of Alzheimer's so this thread has been very interesting and helpful to me to read.
