I am terrified of it.  I'm going to have to go back and see if I started this thread because I thought I was the only one.  I am unable to even talk to my relatives on the phone.  I actually got rid of my phone, I have no home phone or cell phone.  I will only communicate through email or mail.  But I'm actually the same way in person.  I'm scared of talking to anyone, even if I trust them, but the phone is a real paranoia because I feel like the noise is coming from a machine and not a real person and I'm putting that strange thing right up to my brain, who knows whats going on and if I might get cancer from radio waves going into my head.

Even the psychologist couldn't figure out why that was.  He said maybe I had a bad experience on the phone when I was younger.

Sometimes... It's weird I get a lot of PRIVATE phone calls and when I say hello all I can hear is breathing...I give my number to people I only know, but strange people always have away of finding you, It's simple all they have to do is a internet search... So the best thing is to get a new number and on top of that the most important thing to remember is to get our number unlisted... this way no one can find your information not even over the internet...

I only answer calls usually if the call is from someone I know.  If the call coming in is unavailable or unknown I never answer the call.  Why are they trying to hide?  I hate 800 calls, they are the worst.

I'm not exactly afraid of the phone, but I'm a freelance writer, and I find the phone extremely disruptive to my train of thought sometimes. So I often leave it off while I'm working. It's just easier that way.

Maybe i don't really understand the question.  I would be afraid of not having the phone.  Think about it.

Sometimes I find it very difficult to find the words to talk to someone in a professional situation

I'm not "afraid" of the phone...I just don't like it when salespeople call and I can't politely get off the phone with them.  They won't take no for an answer, they end up wasting alot of my time and I've thrown the phone (my cell is my main phone) into another room before to let them carry on their conversation with themselves.  I love caller id, love voicemail and have encouraged clients to email me because they get a quicker response that way---and they love that.
I have been in jobs were I made more sales by politely telling them thanks for your time and have a great day and move on to the next call and only talk to people truely interested in what your talking about.

Yes there are times when I would love get rid of the phone and also not call certain people but I have never been afraid of the phone. In fact I prefer the phone vs the internet when doing business. to borrow a pharse "it's the next best thing to being there"
With all the options now for cell and land lines you can screen your calls and answer only  the ones you want.
Be grateful for what you have and you will receive more than you ever expected

If you believe it you can achieve it.

Caller ID is helpful. There are times when it shows "Florida Call" and is unidentifiable.
