Due to what happened in Japan this past 2wks people are panic about the radioactive wave will swipe towards the US shores. People are out buying out iodine pills!
I had thought that the US now longer used the old nuclear reactors/plants anymore. So, I've just learned that US is still using the same type that Japan had been using which is now going into melt down.
I don't understand why the government is using old or flawed technology. You'd think by now they would have come out with something cleaner & safer. Using this technology is like keeping a rattle snake with it's poison still intact. In a addition to this issue, we are already exposed to radiation on a daily bases. Thanks to us destroying the ozone layer our protection against the sun becomes less & less. We also inflict this for medical & beauty purposes. Sun bating to much or worst going into a tanning booth which the body is exposed to intense radioactive light. X-rays, scanners, mamagraphys, microwaves, computers, tv, etc. pretty much anything electronic will emit small amounts of radiation. The new issue is the Airport full body scanners in which your whole body is scanned & yes you will get small amount radiation but to small to worry about. If you work at the airport or you are frequent flier, you're exposure is doubled. Estimated cases of cancer is predicted to increase esp. those who have to go through the body scanner on a regular bases. I feel like ginea pig being used as a test subject on how long or how many times my body will put up with going through air port body scanner. Is my HMO going to support this; if the worst case scenario happens?
