hey fusion cash users! i have a question or two
« on: December 09, 2010, 08:42:27 am »
i've been working at my job for about two months and i like what i do (stock) but i have to be there at 4, 5 am and leave 10 or 11 am and i get paid a little above minimum wage. I don't like the time framing. when i first got hired i signed up for cashier then they made me do that. My store doesn't open til 8am. Today one of my coworkers who's the same as me tried to give me a cart of work and was clocking my time i took for break but it wasn't right she wasn't clocking enough smh. my supervisor sent me home early i tried to talk to my manager he didn't do anything about it. then i was waiting for my other coworker to take me home and my supervisor was kicking me out the store i didn't do anything wrong at all smh. should i quit? or what should i do?

Try talking to your manager again if that doesn't work go above them if this is really becoming an issue. Just let them know how much you enjoy and value your job. If this was about 10 years ago I may have responded with... "Just find something else" but with the economy we are in I personally would try to work out the difference with the co-worker. I have been looking for a job for 2 years and cannot even get McDonald's to hire me because I have been home with my kids and have no work history for the last 7 years so definitely have an "Attitude of Gratitude" for your job. If things are really going sour and you really feel you have to quit then I would suggest having something else lined up before you make that leap. JMHO.

Don't quit until you have another job lined up first.

i agree with the others - dont' leave the job if it will mean you being unemployed for a period of time.
try to talk to them about the situation and continue to go to work as scheduled, with the best possible attitude and do your best every day

Good luck

Try to stick it out till you have somthing else to do.  You can always apply for particle  unemployment if the keep cutting your hours.  Your hour are such you can look of an afternoon.

Okay, while I agree with the above responses about having a good attitude, there's a flip side to this scenario.  If the employer is doing something illegal, and blaming you for something you did not do, cutting your hours and siting the incident for doing so, that's wrong, and there are labor practices in place that protect you as an employee.

Unfortunately with the economy as it is, the employers have gotten pretty bold about not playing fair in the job market.  It's kinda like we're at their mercy sort of situation....and they know it.  They know there are 100+ people willing to take your job, minimum wage or not.  Unfortunately it gives the employer more power than they are allowed these days.

However, You have rights as an employee, and it would be good to call the labor board and find out what they are. Not to start anything, but to educate yourself just what your rights are.  I guarantee your employer knows when their bending the rules, and think your too scared to upset the apple cart for anything.  In fact their counting on it.

Working for someone is a 2 way street.  You give 150+% and work hard.  Go out of your way to do things they don't even ask you to do, etc.  If your doing everything you can to do a good job, and still being treated like the red headed stepchild, and they won't tell you what's up.....then you need to find out just what your rights are.  You can call the Labor Board, and talk to someone about what's happening, and they can tell you if it's right or wrong. You can file a complaint with them, if your fired erroneously.  On the other hand, the employer should be fair and honest with you if your not meeting company expectations.  Not give you the silent treatment, or ignore you when there's clearly a problem.  Also, if you are laid off or fired, be careful of the reason, and get it in writing.  In fact, ask for it.  When you go to file for unemployment, it will make a hugh difference weather you get unemployment benefits or not.  If the employer refuses to give you notice in writing, that will go a long way of showing their un-cooperation, and you probably have a good case for benefits.  It's tough out there, but you have no reason to be treated wrongfully if your doing your job to the best of your ability.

Standing over you with a clock watch while your taking your break borders on harassment.

If I were you, I wouldn't give your boss and the company the satisfaction of you quitting your job. It sounds like they are pushing you around and harassing you for no apparent reason. I also think you would be better off researching your rights with the labor board. Once you know your rights, go and file a complaint against your employer. If this is happening to you, it is also happening to someone else. So go on and fight back, don't let your boss win this fight with you quitting.

Does this company have a human resources department?  If so, that is where you need to go.  They are there to mediate issues like this and would want to know if you feel that you are being treated unfairly.  Bosses are only human and so some are better than others, but they are not always right.  I would go to human resources and ask for a meeting and tell them that you are very confused and feel that you need to speak to someone to tell them what happened and to see if they can mediate a resolution.  That would be the professional way to handle it.

Don't quit your job for every minute you did not get your full hours file the remainder at the Unemployment office, and then I bet they will not cut your hours any more.  :peace:

:wave:Nice furniture is something the unemployed always hoped they would graduate to next before they ended up losing their jobs. Before and after getting laid off they would be that creep at Crate and Barrel lounging in the bed that reads “Please do not sit on display bed” just wishing they could afford even one item in the store. Anything to make it look like they weren’t still in college. Embarrassed by their furniture they tell friends, ”If you don’t mind the risk of flipping over in that broken papasan chair, you’re more than welcome to come over.” Some day their dream will be realized. Until then, don’t be surprised to find the jobless sitting on the floor where there’s less chance for getting splinters. :'(
