I use an old Miracle Whip jar to collect my pennies.  And have some old jelly and vitamin jars to collect silver coins.  I keep all the coins separated in their own jars rather than mix them together.  Before I cash out, I want to get one of those coin collecting books to get a copy of each coin/year that I have just because I think it would be neat to try to collect a set - then will probably cash the rest when I run out of room.

I actually have a lot of state quarters - as I've been slowly collecting several sets to someday give to my nieces/nephews for something like graduation (complete set of state quarters from a particular mint).  I've kept most of the extras I've had just in case my brother/sisters have more kids.   ;D

I have small stashes through out the house, can't keep the hubby out of it so I hide change all the time.  When I decide to collect it, I do have a pretty good amount.

I have one may jar full of state quarters.  I have another two jars with change.  Since I don't work, I rarely get any money to put in these jars any more.

A rain day jar sound like fun, I will have to see it we can find one.  I save soda cans for a rain day and cash them for something special in the summer.
You might want to think about cashing those soda cans in when you get osterporosis or diabetes to help pay for your treatments. Colas pull the calcium out of your bones. The sugar is a GREAT CONTRIBUTING FACTOR IN DIABETES.

I don't have one and I don't need to buy one. The money I spend on the jar can be part of the "rainy day" money. I use Bank of America's Keep the Change program to save money. check it out.

i have this 3 foot pink crayon bank (its shaped
like a crayola crayon, i've had it since i was 16
and just can't part with it) that USED to hold change.
at its best, it held about $60...

but one day, soon after moving into my current
apartment, i dumped it all out and had to use it for
laundry  :sad1:  it broke my heart to see
months and months worth of saved change just
disappear. it was only about $15 at that point,
but still!

my pink crayon has been empty ever since.
i guess i stopped using cash soon after  :P

PINK!!! I want one lol! I don't carry cash at all any more either so a coin jar doesn't do me any good. I do have a smartypig account though lol does that count ?

Does anyone have one of these? I just got one and it's really cool, it can hold up to $300(or more maybe) in change and it counts it for you!

So far I have $35.00 worth of change in my jar. ;D

It counts the change for you?  Where can I find one?  I've always made a habit of saving change over the years and would take to the local bank year end.  I was pleasantly surprised to find out I actually had $700 last year, the 2nd highest amount I've accumulated ..once had $850 - mainly from purchasing a book of stamps from vending machine at least once per month.

Good idea, I will try to save.   I always give my coins away, but now I will save all my coins.  Maybe I can save up to buy me something nice.  ;D
