Chronicles of Narnia
« on: February 13, 2011, 08:41:56 am »
I finally finished the books, I'm not a big reader so it took me awhile but it's something I am glad I read. I can definitely see how people tie this to religion and why they would want their children to read it to understand it at their own level. Has anyone else read the entire series? How do you feel about the religious ties?

I've read the entire series numerous times.  Now that I'm older some of the religious tie-ins are a bit heavy handed.  I really don't like the way Lewis presented the god Tash (aka, the object of Islamic worship) as evil.

All in all though, the books are very enjoyable.  My favorite is probably "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" with "A Horse and His Boy" coming in a close second.

I started the series back in junior high, but never finished. I have been meaning to reread and finish for a while now. Would you recommend reading them in the order they were written or in chronological book time? (Hope that makes sense)

Lewis was a good friend of GK Chesterton. The two debated and discussed lots about God and all things religion.

I haven't read any of the Narinia but I have read lots of other CS Lewis' work. He's a brilliant writer that said.

Read them in chronological order not publication/written. The Magician's Nephew was written years after he started the series but it explains how Narnia came to be and then leads into The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, it then allowed him to use the characters in the final book too. So the two above in that order followed by The Horse and His Boy, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Silver Chair, and The Last Battle

I need to reread the Chronicles of Narnia.  I actually read them when I was a kid, so I didn't understand/comprehend the religious ties, I thought they were just fun books.
