Any crocheters or knitters out here?
« on: December 19, 2010, 02:00:02 am »
I'd like to hook up, no pun intended, with other crochet or knitters who are selling their crafted projects.  I'd like some information on what they are selling, where and how much they are charging?

I love to crochet the most.  I can knit, but nothing intricate like I can crochet.  Like to sew my own clothes also.  I belong to a Crafters book club, and got some great books on all kinds of crafts, sewing, needlepoint, etc.  From beginners to expert.

I want to sell some of my crafts, but have no idea what they would bring.  I'm looking into following the bazaar circuits and sell my wares.  I know other people do it for a living.  They sell at all the flea markets, special outdoor markets, and holiday bazaars.  By next Christmas I'm going to try and have enough made up to have a table. the community has a hugh Christmas bazaar every year.  People from all over come for the 3 day event.  If I do well there, then I'll have the confidence to branch out.  It's probably trial and error at first until you get your footing.  We won't know unless we try huh?.  Oh, I'll make candy and sell it also.  Have some killer recipes for fudge, peanut brittle, almond roca, etc.

Someone told me if you can sell a similar home made item that was in a regular store, and marked it $5-$7 less, it should sell.  Sometimes if you can get in on a "hot" item that everyone wants (like those hats with the flaps over the ears), you won't have any problem selling them, and asking any price because of the homemade quality of it, and the popularity.  I have a friend that makes hair bows for little girls, and she can't keep up with the demand.

I love to crochet.  I have a bedspread almost finished.  Finding time without being interrupted is like gold right now.

I just crocheted curtains for my bedroom and I've learned to crochet with beads.  I put bead fringe on the curtains.  I started a tote bag too with beads.  If this turns out good I plan on making them in Steeler colors, black background with gold and white beads.

You might very well enjoy it and it saves me a bundle of money.  I knit or crochet most of the gifts I give to people and also some useful things around the house.  At least give it a try.
