It's VERY good for you. It's very high in fiber, low in fat, has a ton of vitamins and contains GOOD carbohydrates that your body needs. Oatmeal can help lower your blood cholesterol, lower your risk of heart disease and it's good if you're trying to lose weight. I like eating those Kashi or Quaker instant oatmeal packets (though, they do contain some preservatives). They have a wide range of flavors and they're really good with sliced fruit like strawberries, bananas, or blueberries on top.

Oatmeal is very good for you in most instances because of the vitamins, and high fiber content.  However, it does contain gluten and for people on a gluten free diet it is not on the list of edible foods.
