TV drugs
« on: September 02, 2010, 03:37:06 pm »
anyone think those perscriptions for imaginary conditions should be allowed on the market? example: anti-depressants. depression is an emotion , and it destroys the mind and body. or the infamous restless leg syndrome

You think depression and RLS are imaginary?

I can tell you from experience...if a prescription hadn't been available for my postpartum depression, I don't know where my family would be today.

Depression varies among seriousness, there are some medicines that cure and are needed. im talking about the ones that purposely find a condition that is exagerated if not completely fabricated. the ones that have side effects that are worse than what they cure. some Anti-depressants are known to cause teens to commit suicide. those drugs

You mean, like the trend of doctors prescribing antibiotics for viral infections?  I'm with you there.  I do not believe TV is a place to educate about drugs and side effects, though.  That is best left to doctors with their patients, or pharmacists and patients.

Agreed! I just love it when patients come in with a list of medications they are absolutely certain they need because all their 'symptoms' were on TV and then of course, they checked it out on the Internet too. ::) ;)

:cat: I absolutely agree with you both.  Only you and your doctor should be the final authority with this.  Some of these commercials seem to deliberately try to bait all kinds of people into thinking something is wrong with them.  I think a lot of people already diagnosed with medical issues are already on what they need to be because of visiting their doctor on recurring visits (I am one of them.)  They don't need the ads to confuse them or make them think something else is wrong.  I would say that teens are a vulnerable target and that's not right.

Plus, those prescriptions that claim *bleep* seepage as a possible side effect should only be prescribed as necessary...not because someone saw the ad on tv, IMO.  LOL   :bootyshake:
