That's awful to hear, I'm sorry. I am out of work too, been looking every single day, sending out hundreds of applications. I have a degree and 5 years experience in my field. No idea why I can't get hired. It sucks, and there are a lot of scams out there trying to get you.
Have you tried craigslist in your city? There are lots of odd jobs on there.

I will be moving chairs for two hours tonight at midnight just to get $15. Feel pathetic.

Keep your chin up, keep budgeting, try to get anything you can. Stay positive.
