Jake I am sorry to read you are struggling. Life itself isn't hard...we are all living. What IS hard is that most of the world is going through difficult economic times. It will change in time which of course doesn't help you right now. Consider changing occupations if you can. Even relocating if necessary. Also network like crazy...let everyone you know you are looking for work. Do not belittle any suggestions they give you...the next one you get might be a goldmine. Use time off to gain new skills/education.

It is very important to also develop sources of income that an employer can not take away from you. For the very fortunate, this is an amazing time to buy rental properties. You will not see opportunities like this again in your lifetime.

READ

There are many positive attitude / inspirational books out there.

If you want to develop an online income, there is a small guide called "5 bucks a day JR" The "jr" version is less than $8. It's a bit outdated but still gives valid advice about building an online income and many have built income far beyond the $5 a day.

Be very cautious about spending money on the "get rich quick" garbage found online. Most "gurus" are snake oil salesmen. They will simply steal your money.

Tell us more about your circumstances and I guarantee you will get dozens of ideas from the folks using this forum. It's a pretty positive group.

Hang in there.

Reading is a very good idea.  It excersises the brain and motivates you.  Keep trying.  Something will come up.  When you get older and have a family, I'm sure you will be ready to take care of them and yourself.  Go back to school, or learn a new trade.  It's not the end of the world and the recession will be over soon.  God Bless!!!!!

OMG TWINS!  ;D I'm done with all that though, I'm going back to school this fall. Want to come with me? We seem to have the exact same life up to this point, might as well keep it going. ^_^ Just kidding! But don't worry it will get better. This is only a rough spot.

Jake, I know how you feel, but hang in there.  Many people don't find what they want to do, or even get a serious job until they are older.  So, try anything that you have an interest in.  EVERYBODY has skills and the ability to learn.  I think reading alot helps.  My husband has had more careers than most and always, one thing led to another in that what he learned at one job led him to another.  He started in construction, moved to being a scuba instructor,  then taught college courses for disadvantaged women, then became a computer programmer, then a motorcycle salesman.  And you know what, the one he enjoyed the most was the motorcycle job.  Now he is starting his own motor head business.  Yeah, I guess he is a renaissance man.  Many interests, reads alot and self teaches himself most things.  When he couldn't find work (and there were some lean days in the construction business) he worked nights as a janitor and met some really special people there.  ANyway, we never starved. Hang in there, you're never done till you give up!

The window washer suggestion reminded me of a great story.  When my dad was working to get through college (he was a very poor boy and had no family support) he met my mom when he was washing the windows of her uncle's pharmacy.

On a practical note, though try looking a the federal government web site.  They have a lot of seasonal work that can be well paid and get you experience you will need.  Thats how all my family got their start (sisters and their husbands) and they all pull down healthy salaries with great bennies.

Yep yep! I heard that "green" jobs and people who know them are in high demand. So something like alternative fuels and things like that are very sought after. ^_^ Sounds pretty good too, must mean that something good and eco friendly is happening.

     8)   Live your own live and do let others ruin it. You are very young and have a full life ahead of you. Do not forget: "You only live once...so live your life fully". Try to start your own business in your won terms...many companies are not hiring and they will probably never call or hire you because they cannot afford to pay salaries/wages. It is a harsh reality...it is the way the economy is right now. Do not waste your valuable time on people or companies that do not care about what happens to you.

I have found life is only as hard as you make it.  Review your interview skills with someone who is good at it, maybe re vap your resume look on line at a few samples and see how yours measures up.  Lastly read a few people skill books, how to win friends and influence people is a great one, it helped me a lot when i was doing a lot of interviews.  When something doesnt go your way dont see it as a wall, learn what you can from it so it wont happen again and move on.

I understand.  Just when I feel that we are getting back on our feet (financially) we get his with something big.....I though I was going to get really good insurance w/ my job but now it is not looking good.  My daughter has medical issues and we can not go w/ out insurance.  If I have to stick w/ my current coverage, I am looking at 400 monthly premiums and about 9,000 annual out of pocket........It suck right now but I keep praying that it will get better.
