I guess I use them so much I haven't paid attention. They don;t bother me....better than cramping up fingers typing it all out if ya ask me.

Nah, the only time it bothers me is when people actually say it in real life.

I FULLY agree with you!!!  Everytime I hear a little girl say the actually letters "O,M,G!", I feel like America's school system is trash...  :icon_rr:

if nething im mor sik uv the ridic abbr. that evry1 seems 2 use thx 2 txt.

Textually challenged translation: If anything I'm more sick of the ridiculous abbreviations that everyone seem to use today thanks to text.

omg and lol don't bug me quite so much as long as the rest of the sentence actually contains some fully-spelled words.

I mostly get tired of people using them--and any other words, really--thoughtlessly. Which is maybe not such a big deal with OMG and LOL as much as the other incredibly stupid things people do online (www.lamebook.com makes me despair for the entire human race, hilarious as the posts are), but it does irritate me when people use "lol" almost as random punctuation. They stick it in all over the place in their posts and e-mails, and either it's totally meaningless or it's just to convey, I don't know, that they're not being totally serious? I hardly ever see it used anymore with its original meaning; if anything it's used to express mild amusement and not actual laughter.

...but that's the language nerd's take on things. :p

I've always had a problem with people over-using slang and tla's.  But I grew up saying "bitchin' way cool and other silly things.  Turned out okay...at least I know how to write. I do worry about the dumbing down of our everyday speech but that too has been happening for generations.  Just look at our grandparents and great grandparents and how they converse and write letters.  That's where xoxoxox came from, you know?

I think I stopped using LOL about 10 years ago... it's weird seeing it in text messages now!

It doesn't take that much longer to type out most of the words and sayings we abbreviate. LOL I understand, it's when people use n  for in , r for are ,and short ones like that , that's aggravating. I get it more often in texts. Like the i just takes too much time.
