Be careful with the Equifax free trial offer....
« on: April 09, 2010, 06:05:55 am »
I signed up for the 7 day trial with the Equifax offer. Since I filed bankruptcy last year and am working on rebuilding my credit, it seemed like a good way to watch. i signed up for the free trial on 3/31, intending to check it out and see if it was worth the $14.95 monthly fee. I liked what I saw, until I checked my bank statement.

On 4/2....Equifax charged me $14.95. I was still well within the 7 day trial. I called and got transferred *6 times*, with each representative telling me that 'their system would not allow them to cancel or process a refund'. By the time I hit the 7th representative, I was beyond frustrated....I had originally called just to question the early charge.....but at this point I just wanted out! I asked to speak with a supervisor, and was placed on hold for 11 minutes. The supervisor was rude, and at first refused to cancel the service. Only after I told him that I would just file a fraud claim with my bank did he agree to cancel and refund the $$.

I still think that this would have been a great tool for me, personally. If the lack of customer service had not left such a sour taste in my mouth, I probably would have continued with it. If you sign up for this offer, just watch your bank/credit card account carefully for charges.

Thanks for the post, I was actually considering this offer.  But now it makes me think twice about clicking on it.  These companies do not understand how much of an impact their customer service has on the product they are offering.  That goes to show that it now does not matter how good their product is, because they now missed out on two possible customers!  :dontknow:

That's strange...I wasn't charged until the day after my 7 day trial ended, and despite having bad credit and trying to improve it, it's not exactly a service I can afford at this time, so I called to cancel. The representative I got was pleasant and respectful, and though I called the day after my 7 day trial, I asked if the charge could be reversed and she agreed to do so.

I guess I just got several reps who were having bad days!  :dontknow:    But when I finally spoke with a supervisor on 4/8....I was told I would rec an email confirming the cancellation. As of today, i have still not rec'd this email, nor have I seen a credit for the $14.95 charge. I'm going to give it until this Thursday, then call back. I think 7 days is plenty of time for a confirmation email and a credit to be issued.

I'm glad others have had a better experience with this offer. Luck of the draw I guess.  ;D

It's always some catches come with trial offers. Just be careful to read the terms and conditions.
Good luck!
