MUST HAVE for a toddler!
« on: March 10, 2010, 11:41:01 am »
I have a newly toddler who had his 1st birthday on the 3rd of march and I'm discovering items I have to have like a gate to keep him going into the next room, a snack catcher for food and a dura-bib stage 2 bib to help keep clothes clean at feeding time, what items do you suggest a toddler must have?

HAVE FUN!!!!
My son is 2 1/2 years old and he is into EVERYTHING.  he climbs over things, we have a fence in front of our TV just to keep him from breaking it.

He loves books, cars, toys or most sorts.  We also color and draw a lot.
He got an alphabet catepillar thing (alphabet Pal by LeapFrog) for his 1st birthday and he LOVES it and it has taught him good things.  He also likes to sing, we sing the ABC's anytime we need him to calm down and then he usually continues with a whole chorus of other songs.

Learning toys are definately the way to go.  Toy phones are also very popular choices.

Get child proof plugs for your outlets so he can't try to stick toys or other things in the sockets.
Also get child locks for all any lower cabinet that's close to the floor especially the kitchen sink! There are lot's of cleaning supplies and liquids with chemicals you wouldn't want him to get his curious hands on and end up swallowing.

Good luck! :)

these are great items to remember, our tv is large and sitting on our coffee table, placing a gate is a good idea, thanks alot keep them coming!

Being of Mother of 6 kids - ages 4 to 18 years of age - I must say, don't worry so much about trying so hard to do the "right thing"
go with the flow.  HAVE FUN!!  Enjoy all the little things.

Get a book and write everything that means something down.  You think you'll remember those moments forever....but it won't be the same.
Don't fuss about how you look or how he/she looks, take every picture that you can, later that's all you'll have.  Enjoy each and every moment....
They really, really grow up sooo fast.

oh i like the idea of writing everything down -- and I keep the pictures he draws, etc.

the plugs in the wall outlet --> good idea but at 18 months my son learned how to take them out

ENJOY the moments..... learn patience.

My son has been well behaved now that he can talk more clearly -- we are able to have a conversation with him and not just have him scream about what he may be trying to tell us.

i bought this bucket to keep shampoo from getting into my baby's eyes when I rinse it off and it works better than trying to do it with nothing to i like it.

I say child proof everything but it won't help much! Toddlers are crafty little ones! My son will be 3 Tuesday and there is nothing he can't find a way to get into! Even the "child proof" things! The best thing to invest in is a child leash!
