I have a parakeet and his name is Jake.  He absolutely responds to his name.  When I call his name he chirps and chirps.   Someone told me that if the the color above the beak is blue it is a boy and if it is pink it is a girl.  A person who breeds parakeets told me this.  I do not know for sure.

When I got a parakeet as a baby, I couldn't tell her gender (her cere didn't turn color until she was older). So I called her Blue, because she was blue. :)
