attending online college
« on: December 31, 2009, 01:27:03 am »
I start attending online college this January. I was wondering if any one else in this forum is taking any online college classes and if so, does anyone have any comments about taking classes online? This is the first time I've tried classes online. Any pros or cons?  Comments or tips appreciated!

Pros:
~You can do your work whenever you have a chance and wherever you want to.
~You don't have to sit in a classroom for hours on end.

Cons:
~{For me} I didn't feel like I learned as much as I would had I been in a classroom.
~We had to log in a certain amount of times per week and if I didn't write it down I wouldn't remember how many times I had logged in.
~It's just my opinion...don't be mad at me~

I took classes online about 2 years ago, and to be honest it was easy to slack off. I need the interaction with the rest of the class, and knowing that I physically have to attend the lecture/lab. It does work for some people, but I need more structure I guess.

I was thinking of taking someonline classes from University of Phoenix.  They are said to have a great online program.  The only problem with that is I am one of those people who has a hard time doing things at home.  For instance, I won't work out unless I'm in a gym even though I have weights at home.  It's wierd.

I never try it but I think if your a person can work on your own and don't need the interaction of a class then I think your going to do good.

I took classes from University of Phoenix. It was for Business, but it was for an associates so I was going through the Axia College, is what they called it. It's kind of funny, because one of the requirements is to post to the class forums a certain amount of time each week, and they have to be substantial posts. Like the requirements here.

I was stupid though. I quit temporarily when I only had about 3/4 of a year to go. I was almost done. I need to go back.

To attend college online you have to be very disciplined.  And you can learn if you have the right software to talk with the Instructor and other students.  I have  attended college online and it worked great for me. and I really enjoyed it.  Again discipline.

I took online classes and got my bachelor's degree. I was pregnant and do not live in a "college" town/city. It was great because I could still work full-time and get my degree. I am now a stay at home mom and am taking more online classes. I can take care of my family while continuing my education. The only thing I find frustrating is that technology isn't always my friend and many instructors are not very understanding when it comes to glitches in the system. My advice...do not wait until the last minute to meet deadlines and notify your instructors promptly when you are experiencing problems! Good luck!!!

I took classes online (not by choice) and did not like it. It just felt like a chore I could not be bothered with, and I waited for the last day to do the assignments. One of my online classes was math which I am not good in, so I pretty much had to try to teach myself. If I was able to pass this, I had another math class waiting. It was when the college decided to put these subjects into a class room with an instructor teaching them, I was able to pass.
