Vanessa Guillen
« on: July 07, 2020, 03:19:59 am »
I've been following Vanessa Guillen's story for weeks while she was still missing. Her remains were found days ago and I have been thinking about that constantly. I think it's sad and disgusting what happened to her and what has happened to other women in the armed forces. She was sexually assaulted and murdered while serving this country. It is also crazy that they have pointed out as many as 4 people involved (in helping cover it up)! While searching for Vanessa they found the body of another missing soldier, Gergory Morales!

I've also read about the death of LaVena Johnson which looks to have been another sexual assault & murder cover up in Iraq 15 years ago. Not to mention the infamous case of the rape and murder of pregnant Maria Lauterbach by her fellow Marine 13 years ago in Camp Lejeune.

I've always heard stories about these things going on in the military but my god!  :'(. I have so many questions about how things like this can happen in some of the most "secure" and "strictly regulated" places in the country.

Sadly it can happen anyplace.  I felt so bad when they finally found her body, even though I thought she had been murdered you always hope for a different ending.  RIP

Her story was one of the saddest that I can think of in a while.  She lost her life due to someone who was bound and determined to misuse her and I don't feel sorry for his end at all.  Now his family maybe but not him.

Yes, this story was very sad, I just don't understand what people are thinking. Why people are so evil. I just don't get it and I don't feel sorry for his end either, he was a coward.

So sad.  Our military should be held accountable.  We trust them with our lives.

I agree! People enlist so they can serve and protect yet they themselves are failed of being protected by the military. It's terrible to hear how some of the women are treated. Many women in the military have started to come forward with their sexual assault stories and it is sickening and infuriating to hear how they were mistreated.
