What is a bully boss. Maybe she should have a steel toe shoes and the walking shoe with her, since it is a part of the job. Why allow yourself to have hell on earth, life is scary enough.

I think I'd let her do it then go and tell my supervisor about it to see if that had been okay.

I wonder what the regular employee would have done had she felt no steel toe after your friend told her she was wearing a steel-toed shoe. Would she have gone to an actual supervisor about it? I can never understand how people get it into their heads that they are the bosses of other people when they aren't. That used to happen to me when I was a secretary. People would act like I was THEIR secretary when I wasn't and ask me to do computer work for them, etc.

Yes she would have ran and told on her.  After smarting off to her.  I know a couple of people who work in this office.  They say she is a real b*tch.  I actually am thinking she is no longer working there.

I work in plant where steel toe shoes are required.  I am in the office but when I go into the plant I have to change my shoes and wear the company shoes.  Since they are supplied by the company we have no choice but to wear them and it is part of the company policy for safety.  We are all aware of the rules and know the consciences if we do not comply.  Random checks are done all the time and don't see a problem with it if you are in compliance.   Two warnings are given, then probation and then termination for non compliance.  It is part of the job and if you don't like it then find another job.

As a contract employee you are not supplied with anything.  Maybe you missed where this person is not a supervisor.  Even if I was a regular employee of a place like this I would have a problem with someone coming up and feeling of my feet to see if my shoes were really steel toe.

And it isn't as easy as "find another job".  They are not as plentiful as the media wants you to believe.

The whole point is this person was wearing the proper shoes.  The person who decided to just reach down with no warning and feel or someone else's toes had no right to do so.  She was never any type of supervisor.  She just acted like she was.  She was screwing the boss and she was his little rat fink.  She told on everyone for every thing.  And most of what she told on people for was ridiculous.

She was not a boss.  That was part of the problem.  But even the manager would have no right to reach down and feel of your feet to see if you really had on steel toe shoes.  Part of the dress code was also women have to wear the proper under garments.  Would it be okay for any boss male or female to feel a woman up to make sure she really bad on a bra?  It is no different.

It is like others have agreed nobody has a right to put their hands on somebody else's body.

The person was a contract employee.  Not a permanent regular employee of this company.  It usually does not go over too well when contract employees run to the supervisor and tell on the regular employees.  Although in situations like this I think the actual supervisor/managers would not approve of the behavior.

Also when you have outside people brought in that are doing audits/quality control inspections and the like people who are breaking the rules are going to hate you to start with.

It is funny because people will go to greater lengths to hide something they are doing that is incorrect that to just fix it and do it right.

It seems odd, - she could have asked her to remove her shoes so she could evaluate them.  I do understand the "boss" needing to make sure thee shoes were correct for the employees safety.  But it does seem a little personal the way she did it.

It was NOT her place to ask her to remove her shoes nor was it her place to evaluate them.  It was NONE of her business.  She is just another employee.  A regular employee who worked in the office who had absolutely NO authority at all.

That is why I was asking "how would you handle this or how would you react to this".  This woman was never any kind of a boss.  She just liked to be bossy. lol  And I guess most people just basically let her get away with it.  Or they just ignored the things (like this) that she done.

And the employee was completely safe.  She was allowed to wear tennis shoes or even hi heal dress shoes if she so chose.  She did not work out in the factory.  The steel toe were ONLY if she ever went out in to the factory area.  For the most part she, as a contract employee, was not required to do this.

I personally, just thought she was really out of line to just reach down and feel of someone else's shoes/feet to see if they were telling the truth about the shoes being steel toe. It was actually NONE of her business to even question or ask if they were steel toe.  The contract employee in question here knew the rules.  If she was breaking them it would be up to the people in management to correct her.  Not regular employees.
