If you made the doctors appointment because you need to see him/her then why cancel.  If it is an illness that you need medicine for then make and keep the appointment.  If you have an appointment for follow up keep the appointment.  If you don't want to go then just don't make the appointment at all.  The only way I would cancel a none urgent appointment is in case of an emergency or weather.

I have canceled appointments because I feel the problem is solved and I don't need to spend the money for the doctor to tell me it is gone.  But other than that, I keep regularly checkup appointments.

I try to keep all my medical appointments.
When the weather is not in my favor, I just
   reschedule my appointments.

I never want to go to the doctor, but if I've worked up the courage to make the appointment, I keep it.

I totally agree.  There are people who NEED to see a doctor and can't get an appointment for several weeks or several months in some cases.  Oh we think you may have cancer we can get you in to see someone in 3 months.  UH OKAY!  If you are not going to show up then don't take up the space.  Someone who WILL show up can maybe get in sooner.
