If we have to start worrying about BS like this we might as well worry about being on a plane and wondering if the crew are alcoholics.

Having been a waitress and a manager of  a restaurant I can tell you  they run their tails ragged for their tips. The government also takes a slice out of their wages of like 8% of the ticket. So tips are really needed as most places pay  next to nothing for wages. But never in my life have I ever  pulled any kind of crap and most others have not either. But  their is always some bad apple to give the rest a bad name.  And I have some nasty people come in to eat and think we owe them the privilege of serving them. But just  keep a stiff upper lip and hope they never come back. But as being a manager I  could and did on certain people. Because  the waiter or waitress feels they are being unjustly  treated can refuse to wait on them and I would back them up or the customer could leave.

If I or anyone believes that than we should not eat restaurants.  I worked in restaurants for about 14 years and never saw anyone do such thing no matter how upset they were.

I saw a news clip of a waitress in a restaurant, who took a hamburger bun and wiped it between her legs (she looked around to see if anyone was in the kitchen with her and there wasn't) then she put the sandwich together to serve a customer.

I am always nice to my server because we never know what happens in that kitchen when no one is looking.

Ew  - - - that is an awful though.  Sure it happens but as a foodie that works in the food industry food safety concerns, precautions and prevention are among top priority.  Course  I work in a grocery store - not a restaurant but the rules still apply. I think if someone were to sneeze our cough over your food it's more likely to have something in it that doesn't belong there than someone deliberately sneaking something disgusting in your dish.  My stomach is turning now.  Ugh!

I'd like to think that servers are more professional than that, and the only ones who do those type of things are teens (but, I am probably wrong).

When I was a server, I never dreamt of doing such a thing no matter how rude someone was to me. I never knew other servers who did this either, but we live in changing times.

I think if you respect your server, treat them well, and give a reasonable tip, this probably would not happen.

I once had a server chase me out of the building to thank me for the tip I gave. I have a tendency to over-tip.

It definitely depends on the quality/caliber of the restaurant.  Fast food places such as McDonald's, yes I don't expect the hygiene to be on the high end.  I've even seen grocery stores like Safeway have workers drop vegetables on the floor then just put them up on the shelf with all the other ones (which is why I wash mine real good before I use them).  But a restaurants such as Outback or Bob Evans, or Red Lobster.  They certainly could not stay in business long if safety rules/regulations weren't met on a daily basis.  I mean with everything blowing up on the internet, it wouldn't take long for something to circulate if even one person got a 'less than kosher' meal at any restaurant.  So no.  I always check reviews of places, especially if I'm going someplace new, so I don't wonder if anyone adds 'personal seasoning' to meals before handing it to me.

Yes I do wonder, so I try to be an easy customer and not give my waiter a reason to want to spit in my food.

I have wondered about that, but I try not to think about it when I'm eating take out. I just hope it hasn't happened.  :o

I don't waste much time worrying about it. For one thing, I always treat waitstaff with respect, so they really have no reason to do something like that.

But at the end of the day, what you don't know, can't hurt you.

Google JediJohnnie and May the Force be with you!
