I've worked 3rd shift off and on for last 30 years....some of its good, some bad.
3rd shift is quieter and bosses aren't around....3rd shift people seem more laid back than 1st shift....no brown nosing going on.
Sleep pattern sucks though....always got paid more for working 3rd...usually around 50 cents more an hour...adds up every month.

I used to see a lot of patients at the dental office where I worked that did shift work.  They worked for a plant in our town that required employees to change shifts every two weeks.  Just as their bodies were getting used to one schedule, it would be time to change again.  That sounds like such a challenge to me.  It looks like a longer stretch at each of the three shifts would make more sense, but if you absolutely hated one set of work hours, you would have longer to wait until it ended.  So who knows which is preferable!

I get paid an extra 6% for working 3rd *bleep* its a little over 60 cents an hour.

right now my shifts are either 9 to 1:30 am which isn't that bad for sleep or 9 to 5:30 am which are hard on my sleep with having 2 toddlers at home.

One of my co-workers is at risk of either quitting or being fired. and I told my supervisor that I would take her place if she left because with all her calls in I am usually taking her shift anyhow.

Sometimes I wonder if I am crazy agreeing to work 9 to 530 4 or 5 days a week when I only get like 4 hours of sleep on those nights.

I get to work full time for the next 3 months at another position in the housekeeping department starting next month but that job allows me to go in sooner and then come home sooner I wont be as sleepy.

I am almost 30 years old and this job for the most part works for me and I wish things just would stay the same. and I am frankly scared that if I went looking for another job that I wouldn't like what I have found and I would regret leaving.

9 to 5 is ONLY an 8 hour shift.  If you like the job and the hours work for you then why are you complaining? Most people these days seem to hate their job and are not happy.

I really don't call this complaining its a conflict. I love my job but I also love my sleep. I am praying and hoping that my one co-worker doesn't leave.

my job conflicts with my family life. if I had no kids no boyfriend my job would be perfect.

but I am waiting for the day I crash my car because I am too tired to drive home because I don't have enough sleep.

Well if you expect to crash your car then you most likely will. Just sayin' You have already decided it will happen.  Not sleeping is your own fault.  You have to make adjustments for what your work schedule is.  I go to bed fairly early right now.  I also go in to work early.  I work days.  When I worked 2nd shift I worked later so there for I slept later.  My sleep schedule worked around when I had to work on my job.  When I was younger I could get by on 5 hours or so a night. lol.  Yeah can't do that now.

It is really hard on the body when you work overnight. And when you want to do things during the day, but you are too tired, that makes it difficult. Just  decide whether you want to work overnight or daylight hours. Money is good, but we all want to work the same hours as our friends.

I guess it depends on the person.  We run 3 shifts.  Most of the people on 3rd shift love it.  I don't know when they sleep or what they do but they like the shift.  I don't think it is hard on the body.  You just have to get use to it.

I've had a few jobs that required me to work 3rd shift; in a 11pm and off at 7am.  I just could never get used to it.  My system just did not adjust at any of those jobs.  That was all in my younger years so I surely would not try that shift now.

I worked the  3rd. shift for quite awhile. I would get off at 6:pm. rush home  get my teenage boys up, feed them  breakfast after they got their chores done.  Clean up the house and dishes put something on in the crockpot and  maybe do a few loads of laundry. then grab  a few hours of sleep.  then get up and help the kids  with whatever ,  chores done theirs and mine.  sleep a couple more hours and as soon as the kids were in bed off I would go again.  90% of the time their father was out partying or gone some where. But my boys were real reliable, and had my phone number at work and I was only 10 minutes away or less depending on  how fast I might have to drive. also the state police and sheriffs dep. made several drive buys   checking the house. Which  helped. Then was offered a new job and  was able to take it.
