people may ask for it and not act on it when they get it.

So true, but sometimes they already know what they want to do anyway.

That is very true. I'm that person who loves giving people advice but most of the time, it doesn't even feel like I'm helping that much.

I usually tell them follow your instincts and do what you think is right

I think a lot of times people just need to hear what they already know out loud. Sometimes when I ask friends for advice I'm mostly wanting to hear someone else say what I have already thought, rather than looking for them to tell me what to do. I know there have been times my friend told me to do one thing, but circumstances changed after we talked and I decided to do something else.

I always appreciate the input of others. Then I do what feels right.

If they ask, then give advice, otherwise don't.

Very true but one thing is for sure - don't give "advice" unless it's asked for.

That's true.  I guess the bottom line is that they will always make their own choice; regardless of what someone suggests.

Maybe they ask because they want some help with weighing the pros and cons so they can consider their options.
Have a great day!

So very true!  I think they really know what they want to hear and if you don't answer the way they want, they'll do what they want to anyway.  In other words they waste their time and yours asking you for advice.

Awhile ago, I had asked on the FC forum,  for advice for someone I knew that had a problem (with her mother-in-law babysitting her child).  I printed out all the answers so she could read them, because she really didn't know what to think or do about the situation.

A few days later, she thanked me for doing that for her.  She said it was so helpful seeing what others thought.  She said others had mentioned things that she hadn't even thought about,.  The advice helped her & she then knew what she had to do.

If someone asks for advice, just give them your honest opinion.  It might be that they REALLY would like to hear someone's thought(s).  Everyone can use a little help sometimes.  :)

And sometimes people try to help someone when he or she doesn't ask for help. When others try to help me without my asking, that gets on my nerves.
