I made a favorite chicken recipe last night, that I have made for years.

It did not turn out as yummy as usual, and I am frustrated.  it turned out blahhhh.

I live on a small budget and don't want to waste it.  I also don't feel like eating this much.

Suddenly I remembered all the times I have wanted to make home-made chicken soup, but haven't because I had no cooked chicken on hand and did not want to bother, came to mind.  More a beef person than chicken.That was really the only chicken recipe I have liked.  But i love pretty much any kind of homemade soup.

So cutting it up and freezing it till i have the rest of the ingredients and will make a big pot of chicken soup when it gets colder. I will have the chicken on hand, it will be easy-peasy.

That's a good idea.  Besides the soup you can make chicken pot pie

You sound a lot like me. I recently bought some turkey *bleep* for an excellent price. I live alone and decided to cook one of them. I ate turkey for 2 days then froze the rest of the meat in a freezer ziploc bag until I want to do something with it lol I too am on a budget. This is the only way to live.  ;)

I do this deliberately ever year. I buy a massive turkey, about 22lb which is much bigger than our family needs. My husband always invites any colleagues from his work that have nowhere to go on Thanksgiving (or no family members living nearby), but inspite of this, I always have plenty left over. So I freeze it in smaller portions and get is out for defrosting when I want to make soup or pot pie. It's an effortless and inexpensive way of making meat last a bit longer and I cannot bring myself to waste anything when there are so many starving people in the world. I feel like every thanksgiving, I have my own little re-enactment of the biblical "feeding of the 5000", where there was more food leftover (12 baskets) than they originally started with (5 loaves and 2 fish).

I really like  cooking a large turkey and then  setting aside some in the freezer for other meals, in fact i cooked a large ham the other day and have several small packages set up to be used in omelets  and or a big package with the soup bone to make  potatoe soup. I like to do this all the time. Today we are having homemade veggetable soup with some ground  hamburger in it, because the package of meat was larger then i needed for another recipe. j put it in the freezer for a later day.It is called waste not want not.

I have never thought of "re-purposing" a meal.  If I make something and it doesn't turn out so great (which happens ALOT because I'm not "gifted" in the kitchen department), I've just eaten it anyway.  That's when my condiment collection comes in handy....ketchup, Ranch dressing, Tabasco sauce or BBQ sauce can really help cover a multitude of "blech".  lol
