apartment repairs
« on: October 19, 2016, 07:07:32 am »
maintenance is always busy.
an apartment building needs upkeep.
everything gets old and needs to be updated.
in our sun room apartments, there is water damage around the windows.
the building was built in the '80's.
maintenance has a project to replace the windows, add screens, and repair the water damage.

Home repairs are similar... it is always something; and no maintenance to take care of it or the expenses.     I was figuring out with home owners insurance, an umbrella policy, taxes, upkeep expenses, perhaps renting is the way to go.   At least, when the house sells, I recoup the money.  Any money considered profit is a a joke, it was spent on insurance and taxes.

Sometimes i wonder if an apartment is the way to go,  all i have to do is pay the  rent and maybe the ntilities. But man with a house  it is not cheap,  we have put a new roof on(metal), replaced all 13 windows, now have  painting to do and then i will have the  house restucttoed  and painted.  Then it is onto the inside to finish up the trim, pull up the old carpet . tile everything, oh yeah paint all the rooms  as soon as we pull up the carpet.  tear one small wall down.  who knows how long that is going to take. I am  a yesterday girl and hubby is a tomorrow man.

I always felt renting "on the cheap" was the best way to go....

I found an OLD house for cheap rent and I've done ALOT of work on the house.  It's a constant project.  I am lucky to find most things I need really cheap.  It's finding the energy to do the work that is a bigger problem for me.

We had house coverage for awhile and they fixed the dishwasher,Ac,Garage door. Plumbing also. It did cost 400.00 a year and 60.00 each time. We did rent for years and only paid for plumbing a couple times but the owner paid for the new roof.

Have to agree with Vickysue, owning there is always something to do and as an owner you pay for the things.  But on the flip side you OWN it.  You can do what you want, when you want, and how you want.  I rented years ago after I left my parents home and now I own,  even with the cost of repairs, I would still rather own then rent.

Give management a hard time about it. If it's a big enough issue, they're bound to get to it.
