Has anyone ever rented a room from an Airbnb?

During a Hipmunk search, I checked out several of these and some are charming!

One lady described her room as a work in progress.  You shared the bathroom facilities with her daughter and 2 kids and their big yellow lab also lives at the home.

Another family invites you to try out their pasta maker or ice cream machine.  You can eat yourself or join in with the family to make new friends.

No, but like you I have read some interesting things about using them for vacation, they seem to be gaining popularity.

I am also intrigued with some of the places I have checked out on Airbnb.  However, I have read some reviews where people have been very satisfied, while others have complained that some places were not at all as advertised.  I read some accounts where the people who rented were "taken" while in several cases the person who rented out to strangers had problems. In my case, I know I would be very wary of renting out my home to a stranger.  I would have to ask an unusually large deposit for any damages.

I own a Condo Timeshare, so that's what we use most of the time when we travel, or when we have guests visit us. Most of them would much rather be at the beach or the mountains than my house anyway.

I stayed in one once. It was very nice. I had access to the full kitchen so I could cook anything I wanted. However, there was no television. That was the only complaint I would have.

What country was that in? Did they at least have Wi-Fi so you could watch Netflix on your phone?

I don't trust people enough to participate in Airbnb. I don't even trust Uber.

I haven't used it before. I keep hearing mixed things about it. Some people have horror stories, and others are happy

I haven't but my friend did in NYC.  I went to visit and stayed with her for a night.  The bedroom we stayed in was ok but the bathroom was disgusting and filthy to me.  The woman she rented from had cats although we didn't see her or the cats. I'm a clean person and I realize other people have different cleaning standards.

I'd rather stay in a hotel where I have come to expect a certain level of cleanliness and standards.  You never know what you will get in a strangers house.  I can usually find good prices on Priceline.

A friend of mine rented a room in her home through AirBnB to a school teacher from another town who needed a place to stay while waiting to move into her house. They got along great and became friends. Myself, I don't think I'd feel comfortable staying in a stranger's home or haveing a stranger stay with me.

Hipmunk is the best website to search for travel options. See and compare. Thank you FusionCash for the link to this awesome site.
