No coffee at any time of the day for me.  Never could stand the smell, much less the taste of the stuff!

I only drink one cup in the morning when I do drink it, I am  not an all day coffee drinker.

I've got a mixture of opinions on coffee drank later in the day. I frequently will have instant coffee in the afternoon and evening and I never have a problem sleeping at 10pm. I've even had a large cup of McDonalds coffee before going to bed and it didn't keep me awake. However I once got a frappe type coffee from Baskin Robbins in the afternoon and I was still awake at 1am. What was worse is I also bought my two sons the same beverage thinking it would be a nice weekend drink for them and they were also awake until the wee small hours of the morning. I vowed to not buy that specific drink for myself in the future unless I am going on a long road trip. My kids will not have it until they are adults for fear of them swinging from the chandeliers!!!

Lately I have been running out of energy at work by 3:00.  I've been drinking coffee as a pick me up.

I think later in the day is OK if you mean later in the afternoon, not later in the evening. I have never had a cup of coffee in the afternoon affect my sleep at night in any way, but it sure does if I have the coffee after dinner.

I am a coffee drinker and could probably drink about 6 cups a day if I let myself.  However, I have noticed that if I drink any after about 3p.m. I stand a good chance of not being able to sleep.  For this reason, I try to not drink it later than that.  Every once in a while though I give in to the urge.  Usually I pay for it that night by not being able to get to sleep until 3a.m. or so!

I think there are some articles about what time you should stop caffeine in order to sleep alright at night. I think everyone is different though. Try decaf or half-calf later and see how it makes you feel or try it on the weekend so you can test it out
