Annual physical examination
« on: June 12, 2016, 08:34:07 am »
Do you have a annual examination. I try to go every year and least for that exam, maybe not for everything else due to the expense at times.

I am a Senior so I try to get an examination every 6 months to keep on top of things that can go wrong as we get older. I always have blood work done and accept any vaccination my doctor offers me like the Prevnar 13 shot and Shingles shot.

No, not really. I don't go to the Dr. unless something is wrong. As my mother always says, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"! Of course, that's my regular primary care physician. I have to go to my "female" doctor at least once a year to renew my birth control, but I don't mind that because I know it's for a good reason.

I need thyroid medication so I have lab work done once a year.  I also do some of my other annual exams; however, I don't go to the dentist until I have a darn good reason to do so.  I've been blessed with great medical insurance but I don't have dental coverage.
Have a great day!

I don't actively schedule myself to go annually -- sometimes I go 2 years or so without a visit, but I am on blood pressure medication.  When my refills run out, my doctor's office often tells me "you haven't been in since X date - the doctor needs to see you before he will call in another refill."  That happened to me a year ago in May and the routine blood work he ordered disclosed a blood issue -leading to further tests and a few other doctors.  After doing my own research, I concluded that I likely had sleep apnea and that is what caused my blood issue.  It was a pretty expensive test to confirm it, but that turned out to be spot on.  The two sleep tests and several doctor visits satisfied my $5,000 insurance deductible, so I was then able to get my CPAP machine free!

Which was also a good thing because of the gall bladder attack I had over Labor Day!  More doctor visits and tests confirmed it.  But the outpatient laproscopic surgery I expected turned into a full incision with a 3 day hospital stay. Thank the Lord in heaven, it was 100% covered since my sleep apnea satisfied my annual deductible!

Had I not needed the blood pressure meds refilled in May, I probably wouldn't have known about the apnea for a good while longer and might have had to meet that darned deductible twice instead of just once!

No, I don't. My health is pretty good so there is no need.

I, for one, don't believe in "annual physicals".  To me it's just another way for the doctor, blood draw techs, x-ray techs, etc. to make a buck.  I have a policy - if it ain't broke - don't fix it!!!  Your body is a unique form of art that will tell you when something is wrong - just pay attention to it!!!

No.  I do not have insurance and cannot afford this.  Besides that I hate doctors.

I go every year because our insurance company rewards us for preventative care.
