January Is Blood Donor Month Can You Give Blood?
« on: January 09, 2016, 03:48:21 pm »
I can give blood because I'm not at risk for any immune system illnesses/disorders. I can't simply choose not to give blood whenever I would have the right to do so. Once it's been at least 8 weeks since I last gave whole blood, I have to give blood ASAP because every other second, somebody needs blood in my country (USA), and barely anybody who can give blood out of full qualification actually does so. In my opinion, a person does not fully qualify to give blood (other than having had sexual immune situations or having been to certain parts of the world at risk for immune system disorders, etc.) if he or she finds feeling a vein poked too painful or gets too nauseated and/or dizzy any time afterwards.

I have always given blood, but now having cancer and getting chemo there is no way they would accept me.

I used to give blood until I traveled to a part of the world which required special immunizations, and then they wouldn't accept me any more. I would be more than willing to give blood, I used to enjoy a little bit of time off work, with a cup of tea and a cookie I felt quite waited on, like having a spa treatment! At least, that's how I saw it. The nurses were all great and I enjoyed chatting to people who were of a like mind and had the same values as me.

I used to give blood but I had to wait due to a new piercing. I can return March 1st but I think I might start donating plasma instead.

while I don't give blood as often as I should, I do give on occasion.  I have A+ blood so they're usually pretty happy to see me.  not as happy as my hubby though who is O+ ...

Oh, I encourage everyone to donate blood, at least once! Please!!! I didn't understand how important it was until last month when I was in the ER with a dangerously low hemoglobin level and needed several blood transfusions. I can't describe how scary it is when you just stand and your heart rate reaches 130 and you feel like you're going to pass out and can't breathe. Please donate!!! It could save a life.

I donate plasma twice a week in a not so altruistic manner. I get paid money for every eight hundred and eighty milliliters taken. It is kind of nice because I sit down for two hours and am not able to do anything but fusion cash: no phone calls or work (I need two hands to perform the day job and secure systems for both jobs). The money is paid immediately and I put it into the family fund once a month to help pay for my son's private high school.  I also buy one share of stock per month from any bonuses that come from frequent visits. I am able to utilize wifi at the donor center and, in addition to fusion cash, I review stocks and plan out investments from upcoming fusion cash pay outs. Every penny counts and donating plasma is actually a break from work for me.
