when you break something

that belongs to someone else, the right thing to do is to replace it.
There are times when I have experienced complete forgiveness and no need to replace that item that broke.
Most people will forgive the mishap.
Dishes break in our kitchen and public dining room from time to time.
I saw a member of the wait staff load up his tray with dirty dishes.
There was one drinking glass that was slightly tipped on an angle and still standing. The waiter neglected to stand it upright.
Either he didn't notice it or he didn't think it was a problem.
The glass fell to the floor and broke.

That happened to me earlier this month.  I was in Amsterdam visiting a friend and the first day I was there I was coming out of her room and bumped into a bookcase in the hall (it wad dark) and it knocked over a mirror on a table. She's renting an apartment so it was her landlords mirror.  My friend doesn't have a car so I had no way of going to a store and buying a new mirror so I just gave the landlord money to replace it.

I agree, the right thing to do is to replace it.

Agreed. When I was much younger my sister and I accidentally broke a porcelain doll that belonged to the little girl we were babysitting. She was about three at the time, I think, and did not act how you would expect a toddler to in that situation, haha. We replaced it. I hate breaking something of someone else's, it makes my nerves raw and I feel terrible about it!

I accidently broke something the other day at a store, I felt horrible! I was willing to pay for it, because thats the right thing to do, but the girl was so nice and said dont worry about it

Idealy replacement is the right thing to do if you break something, but, what if it is something that cannot be replaced?  I would feel horrible!

Yeah I mean the right thing to do if you break someone else's stuff is offer to replace it. Depending on what it was, if it was my stuff that broke, I might even tell the person to not even worry about it.

Yes if you break something of someone elses regardless if it was an accident, a replacement is in order.

I accidentally did this at a friends house so I bought them a new one.

I think it's best to say you broke it, and you'll replace it!

       It is: "Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
                All The King's horses and the King's men...could not put Humpty together again!
       So what is the point? If it breaks...it breaks forever! Replacement is the only solution to
       this terrible problem. Prevention is the best choice in the first place!

I have never broken something that was belonged to someone else, but I have had my things broken. It really sucks when someone else breaks your things.
