Yes, some people say you save money doing it that way, I guess it  depends on your personal choice as to how long you want to have up before Christmas, I have friend and family that puts theirs up the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

The Christmas Season is way too long as it is.
I like the idea of waiting until Christmas Eve.

Alot of people who  have busy lives do this. it s is the because that is the only  time they get free or a day off sometimes. At least when I was growing up,if everyone worked,
One of us kids was tasked to trim   the tree, sometimes if we were working, it did not happen until the night before.
As for opening presents, we opened up one on xmas eve, and the rest on xmas day.

I remember first hearing about this custom on the Christmas episode of I Love Lucy. My family has never done it that way. I much prefer having the tree up for the whole month.

This is a family tradition for me and mine. We always put it up Christmas Eve and left it up until a bit after Epiphany (January 6th) Only to take it down the 7th. We're also Greek Orthodox, so before we shifted to using the regular calendar we used to have Christmas when the Catholics were having Epiphany, so we just left our tree up because my father was Lutheran. It was like two Christmases. Even though the calendar isn't like that anymore, I still keep the tradition, because it's a tradition that has a lot of family meaning for my family, so I like to keep it alive.
